Self-Care Tips For Those Who Work From Home

Many of us, myself included, have been working from home for a while now. On paper, it sounds like a dream come true, right? No commute, no office politics, just you and your laptop, taking on the world. Balancing work, staying motivated, and taking care of your health and wellness can be tricky, and you have to put in the work to make it a successful reality.

Besides adjusting to working from home, you might also find yourself juggling other responsibilities like chores, homeschooling, or caring for loved ones. Today, I want to share self-care and wellness tips that have certainly helped me and hopefully can help you, too!

1. Start each day by getting up at a consistent time to help establish a sense of routine and structure. Instead of sitting in your PJ’s all day, change out of your night time PJ’s into your daytime, video call appropriate PJ’s! This simple step can help shift your mindset from relaxation to productivity. If you’re an overachiever, firstly, you will likely not be reading this, but in any chance you are, consider incorporating other self-care practices like stretching or journaling.

2. Create an actual workspace! If you can, designate a specific area in your home for work – whether it’s a dedicated office space or simply a corner of your living room. Keep your workspace organized and provide yourself with all of the necessary tools. Invest in a comfy chair and position your computer at eye level to prevent neck and or shoulder strain.

3. I know it might take some time to get used to but take regular breaks. I know how easy it can be to get caught up in a certain task or not want to look away until you’ve completed (insert super niche responsibility here). Proper breaks are important; you want to allow your mind to rest and enjoy a meal, a short walk, or even an errand. By prioritizing these regular breaks, you will not only boost your productivity but also enhance your mental and physical health in the long run.

4. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is the key to a successful work-from-home career. It’s easy for work to spill over into your personal time, or vice versa, but finding balance is crucial. Instead of overworking, focus on something soothing for your mind and body and you will feel more inspired and motivated as a result.
